SERBIAN FOOD AND LIVE SERBIAN MUSIC FRIDAYS AND SATS AT MONTE 25 BROADWAY ASTORIA

Forget the Serbian Restaurant on Avenue C East Side.

Why?

All the Serbs or many at least, wine and dine and celebrate at Monte 25-30 Broadway in Queens at 29th St.

Live Serbian music Friday and Saturday.

Nice space and bar as well as dining area.

Music begins at 11. Get there early and eat cevapi, a favored among Serbs, grilled meats and sausage like things. Yum. It is not on the menu so ask for it: cevapi!

  1. I am guessing cevapi is not on the menu because this is an Italian restaurant owned by Serbs

Whatever your gastro-ethnographic antennae may determine, perhaps. Yes, you are quite correct in stating that they are Italian in cuisine on the menu, and covertly Serbian. I wonder if the chefs are Serbian. I bet they are.

I like this, because it basically is trying to do business by marketing itself as best to sell food that is popularly know, yet really is also a place for the local Yugoslavian block country people and Serbs to spend time together, get a meal, her live music without it being a boutique representation of Serbian restaurant for display and attraction to tourists.

If you notice the Thai restaurant phenomena, if I may refer to this, in that the cooks are Thai, the owners Thai, and wait staff Thai, but in sum these places are just selling the image of Thai to western eaters, sort of like how Chinese Zhang Yimou simply makes movies for western viewers with what they see as being Chinese。Full of stereotypes and such. Nt to say his films are bad. I like Red Sorgum.

Nor to say Thai venues in NYC are bad, just not a bit Mickey Mouse.

The Mickey Mouse factor in international cuisine and restaurants is something to note. Happens with many.

Now your statement could be used to expand on another note, such as inconsistencies with cuinsine, chefs and the presentation of restaurant identity ie: italian etc。

I'd order the chivapi though, and it might not be cooked in an Italian owned venue, but the menu selections of Italian I am sure are good.
