Restaurants near Torrance??? Help? Manhattan Beach?
I'm picking up my brother in Torrance tomorrow night and would like to take him to a nice dinner. I have no idea where to go. He's from out of town and his favorite restaurant is GJELINA in Venice on Abbot Kinney. It looks like it's a half hour away. Are there any great restaurants any closer? In Manhattan Beach? Torrance?
MB Post comes to mind.

+3 for Manhattan Beach Post. 40% of their tables are saved for walk-ins. Great food. Small plates like Gjelina (but even better). Make sure you try their Bacon Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuits.

If he likes Gjelina, then DrBruin is correct, MB Post would be your best bet--excellent, inventive, small plate cooking. I was there recently and enjoyed their cheddar and bacon biscuit with maple butter, scallops with shrimp dumplings in a dashi broth, veal short ribs with kimchee, Vietnamese style pork jowl and individual hot apple tart. Several other good restaurants in the area (e.g. Darren's, Izakaya Bincho, Petros or, in Torrance proper, Musha and Torihei) but that would be the one that offers food and ambience closest to what people seem to like about Gjelina. In fact, I like it better than Gjelina.

Japanese Italian fusion @Capricciosa located on Lomita and Crenshaw. It shares the same building as Tony Roma's which was the old Claim Jumpers at the same corner. The Pescatore was my favorite. Lots of calamari rings, fish, and shrimp on top of garlic pasta. The kids really loved the gelato.
