Chowhounds best 10 Resturants in GTA - 2012 version

We did this almost exactly a year ago so it's time for a refresh

Please read and follow these instructions

Each poster may submit 1 reply containing a list of up to 10 restaurants they consider to be the best in the GTA. Nothing else, no comments, no meta discussions, just a list. Order is not significant.

Make your own judgement as to what you consider GTA but please lets limit it to places one can have a normal dinner with a glass of wine and still have time to sober up and drive home by 1AM.

Any cuisine, any service style, any price point.

You MUST have actually eaten in the restaurant in question at least once within the last 18 months

You MUST have eaten in the restaurant under the CURRENT ownership and/or executive chef (so this means for example that for the Black Hoof that means during the tenure of Brandon Olsen)

Deadline is Midnight January 31st at which point we tabulate the results and post them here.

Have fun

  1. Excellent - was waiting to see if shekamoo was going to initiate this again, otherwise I was planning to post a note. Thanks bytepusher. I'll kick things off...in no particular order...

    Woodlot

    Beast

    Enoteca Sociale

    Guu Izakaya (Church Street)

    Khao San Road

    Pizzeria Libretto (Ossington)

Saving 4 spots for those "oh crap, totally forgot about them" moments as others start to post their lists...

    Happy new year. Cheers!

We walked by "yours truly" on the weekend, en route to Enoteca Sociale. They weren't open yet but a friendly woman at the door saw us peeking in and handed us a card - looked cute. The menu looked interesting and the bits I read online about the owners, chef and menu format piqued my curiosity - would love to hear more.

          1. re: aser

Isn't that kind of cheating because Sukho and Khao San road are two different restaurants :)

ok, count it as khao san as that seems to be getting more votes. I see them as the same as both share a significant chunk of the menu. The shared items also taste the same at both locations, to my tongue at least.

            2. re: aser

how can Yours Truly get a vote if its not open yet?

i might as well vote for momufuko, then

              1. re: atomeyes

It is opened. There are pics of the food posted in another thread.

                1. re: atomeyes

it's open, you might be thinking about the grove?

                  1. re: aser

i apologize. thought it was opening later in January. think i was reading old(er) blogs.
                    whoops! :)

                  2. re: atomeyes

It opened a few weeks ago. The reference to not being open yet in my note referred to the fact that we were walking by around 5:00 pm and they hadn't yet opened for the day. So no momofuku votes just yet...:)

                2. Visiting GTA soon, just want to be on the thread.
