Planning a soup party at my place
I will provide salad/starters/drinks
Friends bringing 3 diff types of soups/stews
SO...here is my dilemma....
I am trying to decide on a fun signature drink cocktail or punch for the nite
should I do for a simple app and salad.....?????
If I can still track down pomegranates around here I would love any CH's ideas for a salad topped with those lovely pom jewels.....
APPS? I am so hungover from the holidays - I can't think straight through my app ideas....something simple? no apps?
HELP ME CH's....... I have post holiday menu brain freeze!!!
Sedimental and TSAW...awesome work !
I love love love....goat cheese - so that is the plan and I love the blood orange dressing idea - now to find some blood oranges!
Also - thanks for the crouton idea - I have several partial baguette loaves in my bin right now - they will be croutons tomorrow!
What a great idea! I love it. I might steal this idea from you, if I may!
I think you will need to keep the appetizers very light. It may be difficult to pick something if you don't know what soup flavors are being brought in. One of my go to apps is bacon or procuttio wrapped dates. It's easy and light and probably won't duplicate any of the soup flavors. Maybe a light dip like hummous or tzatziki would work as they aren't so heavy.
As for salad.. sedimental's suggestion with fruit, nuts and cheese is the way I'd go as well. With pomegrantes, I like a blood orange vinegrette.
Don't forget to have some toothsome bread or homemade crutons to go with the soup selections.
I don't do a lot of cocktails but a sangria (a white and a red) could compliment the soups nicely but will be a little more interesting that just wine.
I have had my fair share of heavy, rich, holiday food too!
I have been making a salad with arugula, green apples or pears, fresh nuts, semi-hard goats cheese - dressed simply with white pear vinegar and roasted almond oil. I sprinkle on some Pom seeds for garnish. It tastes so fresh and clean to me, I have eaten it with every entree this week!
You might also think about veggie only apps like blanched, quick pickled green beans and a white bean dip for lighter pita chips and jicama crisps.
