Cask Republic in New Haven?

Any word on Cask Republic in New Haven? I've heard it described as an upscale pub kind of place with a good selection of beers.

The menu looks promising, but I see that the same group owns the Ginger Man restaurants in Stamford/Greenwich, which have not impressed me.

  1. Food is solid, if a bit on the chi-chi side...and a little pricey too. Similar vein to the GMans and the beer and liquor selection is also top notch...but also a tad on the pricey side, especially compared to SoNo's GMan. Moreso for the specialty and Belgian style offerings than regular beer styles.

It is an impressive space that's for sure...and it always seems to be crowded.

I typically frequent the place more for the beer selection than for lunch/dinner and the owner (Christian) and bar staff are very knowledgeable and engaging in beer chatter if you happen to be a beer geek/aficionado/whatever.

Word is they're in the process of opening another location in Bridgeport...which should be interesting (and closer to where I live).

Food is pretty good. Overall it is a bit swanky for me.
