Restaurant for Chinese New Year
Does anyone know of a good Chinese restaurant that will be serving special dishes or meals for Chinese New Year? We will be a group of around 7 people and price is not an issue.
I haven't celebrated Chinese New Year in Manhattan before and haven't been to any Chinese restaurants in the area either, so I'm quite clueless. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
Shun lee palace is the classic option. They already have menus of chinese new year on rheir tables. Some years the meals are excellent, other years less so. Of course, it is not Chinatown chinese food but for a formal meal and splurge it ticks the boxes. The prix fixe is about $70 i think.
Likely Mr Kays also has a set meal. Perhaps Chinatown Braserie.
Some Chinatown spots also should have new year banquets but ive actually found them harder to locate and thus arrange for our own banquet with some Chinese restaurants we frequent in Chinatown. Good luck.

Yay Chinese New Year! AKA the Festival of Overeating :)
I've done CNY at Chinatown Brasserie and they usually have a special menu:

As of last week, they haven't finalized their menu yet.
Red Farm will have CNY specials and they should have their CNY menu finalized in a couple of days:

I've had CNY at Shun Lee Palace and they really pull out all the stops. The food is much better than usual during CNY. When I went it was a 10 course meal with scallops, duck, braised veal with marrow, longevity noodles, etc. I haven't been back in close to a decade though...

Mr. K does a CNY menu, I have no idea how it is. Did not have a good experience the last time I ate there :( Room temperature food, slightly congealed, overly sweet sauces. It wasn't always bad, but too many good restaurants for me to go back....

Thanks! Chinatown Brasserie sounds perfect! It seems like Chinatown Brasserie doesn't have their CNY menu up yet though? I looked at their website but couldn't find it.
I've heard great things about RedFarm and would love to go there to celebrate CNY there as well if only they accept reservations!

Just a comment that whereas I had some quite decent food at Shun Lee for a New Year's banquet, the food otherwise is just plain lousy--and terribly overpriced. Does Oriental Garden do a New Year's banquet? If so, it would be classy and good.

The tentative menu for Chinatown Brasserie CNY is out. Red Farm is taking forever to inform on CNY plans...
PS - The CB suckling pig. Is. Amazing.

I have a friend going to an Eddie Huang dinner at LTO. Sounds potentially fun. http://ny.eater.com/archives/2012/01/...
