How did your glassware or porcelain break?

I've seen a couple of threads recently about Pyrex glassware exploding it's got me wondering.

Does porcelain or stoneware actually perform any better when it breaks? (i.e. break into fewer pieces, have less sharp edges, etc.)

Please tell me your experiences of glassware, porcelain, stoneware, ceramic etc. breaking.

Thank you :)

I think the thing is Pyrex can explode. I know of no ceramic product that explodes. I have cooked with hand thrown stoneware, and other ceramic products and never had breakage that I can recall. I did have some earthenware handles break off soup bowls, but that's what earthenware does. I've broken numerous teapots through the years, generally by knocking off the spouts. It is traumatic when its your grandmother's old teapot, but there was no flying shards or anything.

I have only broken my porcelain, stoneware, glassware by dropping them. Maybe clayware is touch better in dealing with heat. For what it is worth, I can cook my clayware directly on cooktop, and I cannot do that for Pyrex.
