best pretzel in east bay

Who makes the best fresh preztels in the east bay. I am talking the superpretzel style, new york cart style. I don't care for the ones made at the mall places like wetzels and annies.

Esther's Bakery sells at the Montclair Farmer's market, but you can also get bags of their (not quite as fresh) pretzels at the Berkeley Bowl. Their pretzel rolls are excellent. http://www.esthersbakery.com/buy.htm

I agree with rworange's assessment of Oktoberfeast's pretzels, but their pretzel glazed croissants are one of my favorite foods.

I can get some at berkeley bowl. perhaps a few seconds in the microwave will compensate for not being fresh from the oven.

I might argue that superpretzel isn't the best style. The best pretzel I've had ever is at Gaumenkitzel in Berkeley

I would love to try other styles also but I don't want to have to sit down at a restaurant to try a pretzel. do they sell them to go like a bakery ?

Yep.There s a take out bakery case. Not really a different style, just hand made and better.

The other preztel is at Oktoberfeast Bakery which sells at farmers markets and a store on University. I've never been a fan of that pretzel though. Though it is a soft pretzel, it always seemed a bit dry and more like a chew toy.
