Astor Place recommendations for tonight

Friend from Paris is visiting. She doesn't like super casual restaurants. So what would be reasonable in price but not too East Village-y in the Astor Place area? Only time I've been at The Smith for dinner, my eardrums almost burst! But something similar would be great, without all the din.

Perhaps Prune, Chinatown Brasserie or Hecho en Dumbo, but that depends on what you mean about super casual.

Indochine is a nice place for upscale Vietnamese food. Nice atmosphere.

I haven't been, but Apiary might work. Or Vandaag, where I have been (I wasn't crazy about it, but the bread and the cocktails were very good).
