LA VERA coming to Cobble Hill (old Breukelen space next to Ted&Honey's)
I noticed a flyer posted, asking for public feedback for outside drinking concerning a new restaurant coming to the old Breukelen space. The name of the restaurant is La Vera and it will specialize in the "Jewish/Moorish legacy in Spanish cooking." According to the flyer, the owner also has the restaurants Txikitoi and El Quinto Pino. I think this sounds really great and a fantastic addition to the 'hood!

re: Steve R
Just came home from La Vara with a severer case of sticker shock. The place is definitely overpriced, and not just for the standard of the neighborhood. Here are a few examples:
3 tiny-- and I mean tiny as in less than bite size--empanadillas, fried a bit too long with nothing inside to speak of $9
4 "imported" anchovies. Not the delicate, fresh ones we got in San Sebastian. No these were fresh from the tin little strippers, just a cut above pizza quality. $11!!
Beets and watercress with a few pine nuts $10.
A whole sole, nearly raw and swimming in oil $28.
The room is overcrowded with literally no separation between tables, and so loud I couldn't hear myself chew.
What a disappointment.
