Cholent in a Bella Triple Slow Cooker

Does anyone know if this device (seen at B.B. and B) can be used to make cholent? It has a groove in the ceramic containers to allow a spoon to rest inside and I am wondering if it will emit so much steam so as to dry out a cholent overnight. Kind thanks.

I've got both, the Costco one and the Bella, and they've both got the slots. I haven't used the Costco one yet, but I used the Bella and it was great. I folded up a small piece of aluminum foil and made a little plug - not a perfect fit, but it filled most of the hole.

I rinsed the insert with very hot water to warm it up before putting in my ingredients, and (as I do with even my regular crock pot) I started on High, and then flipped to Low righ before Shabbos.

I have used the TRU brand (sold at Kohls) which has the same design. Find it works ok for Cholent as long as I use the low setting. When I tried medium it was a little dry.

Costco has a similar one without spoon slots (at least I don't recall seeing them).

I've never seen one but I gotta think it doesn't let out steam if it's closed right or it wouldn't be very good at any slow cooking, not just cholent.

Even when the lid is on, there is about a square centimeter opening at the lip.

That's curious. Well, I suppose you could just get around it by adding a little bit more water than usual.

Or putting a sheet of foil over the top and weighing it down with the lid.
