A sophisticated bar on the Upper West Side?

Are there any? There are plenty of joints, but is there a nice, quiet-ish, club-y kind of place anywhere? How's the bar at 'Cessca? Or Picholine? How about the new place in the Cafe Des Artistes' space?

Thanks in advance

  1. The bar at Picholine is great - certainly sophisticated and rather intimate.

The Salon at Per Se is quiet and quite posh just like a private club, though jackets are required.

The Salon sounds nice, but there's precious little information at the website. None, in fact.

Are reservations required, or just arrive and be seated? Must one order food, or is it mainly a bar?

      Thanks again

For the Salon, no reservations are required. I believe that you don't need to order food if you just want to drink and chat. Hope you get to try it when Per Se reopens.

    2. the bar at 'cesca is very nice but very busy. The Leopard is a nice clubby sort of bar (that is the Artistes space's new name)

When Loi was Compass is was once of the nicer quiet bars around here. It still looks good.

The bar at Lincoln is also quite nice

      1. Went to Loi a few weeks ago, bar was pretty, but very quiet. Lincoln is very nice, so is telepan, awesome drinks.

          Thanks all.

Went to Lincoln which is very nice but difficult, due to the seating arrangement, for more than two people to chat easily. Nice place though.

Unfortunately Per Se is closed for a winter break. Would have liked to have gone there.
