Are there any bars in Bensonhurst???

I moved to Bensonhurst a few months ago, and came to the realization that there don't seem to be any bars...at all. I'm around 18th ave in the 80's. Am I wrong on this? Any hidden gems I'm missing? Any search for 'bar' on yelp seems give sushi bars, or some kind of a lounge/hookah bar...

I know Bay Ridge is only a bus ride away, but it would be nice to have somewhere local

In a word, no. I moved to the exact same neighborhood as you 17 years ago (18th & 82nd) and was also surprised. At the time, the neighborhood was largely Italian and they aren't known as barflies. Now, even though the Russians and Chinese have taken over, there is still nothing in that area. Stick with Bay Ridge.

Jamie Lynn's Kitchen on 86th and 15th Ave does have a bar in front. Having said that, I've only eaten there and can vouch for the food service and atmosphere being good as far as the diining goes.

It has always seemed very strange to me too that we don't have any bar bars in Bensonhurst.

I'm sure it has something to do with zoning. However, in recent years, two have opened up on 65th Street between Bay Parkway and 23rd Avenue. They cater exclusively to a Russian crowd.
