best restaurant in Poughkeepsie?

I guess Italian first choice but would consider other cuisines

thanks in advance,

  1. I really like Crave (American), but I'm not sure if I would suggest any Italian restaurant as the best. If you're craving good Italian and willing to drive a bit, Aroma Osteria in Wappingers, Il Cenacolo in Newburgh, and Rracis in Brewster are all wonderful.

    1. Although we used to have a house across the river, we haven't dined in Poughkeepsie in years. Today, however, we found ourselves at the Queen City Bistro and it was one of the best meals I've had this year - from an innovative CIA-grad Chris Pearson - who has only been open 6 weeks.
      It's worth a detour as Michelin would say.

        Thanks for a great review of QCB! I really enjoyed the food there and I thought the taste and presentation were excellent. Did you find that the pacing of the meal was a little off? I went with two friends and all of our dishes came out at random times. I know that they serve small dishes, but the last plate was served 20 minutes after the penultimate one. Just curious. Thanks!

          Now that you ask - Our excellent waitperson asked how we wanted items and we said - since they're small plates, just bring them out as they're ready but settled on the starter 1st which came out promptly but indeed as we ate it the chef (1) chatted up two tables and (2) seemingly interviewed a prospective employee and our mains appeared all-together later than they should have.

            That's pretty standard for tapas, which is what they seem to be doing. Granted getting the last one 20 minutes after everything else is a problem.

          Thanks for this, John. We tried it last week for lunch and it was very impressive.

          Full report on my blog:

        3. was there today for lunch, and was impressed with the quality of the food, especially since it was at lunch. we had:

          -> squash blossom flowers (fried) with ricotta stuffing
          -> soft shell crab with some garnish - both of those were specials.
          -> duck breast
          -> arctic char.

          all four were outstanding, great flavor combinations and all dishes cooked perfectly. very impressed.

            At Queen City Bistro? I love squash blossom flowers. Will definitely have to stop by.
