Great croissant in Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Noho, etc?

Just had an offensive croissant from a bakery on Van Nuys & the 101. Croissant on the outside, straight-up bread on the inside. No flake, no layers, and I paid $1.65.

Not happy.

Any SFV folks have a better idea(s)? Thanks...

  1. There is a donut shop on the corner of Ventura and Beverly Glen right across from the Verizon store. The best I've ever had. I also like Belwood Bakery on Ventura near Whitsett. Also very good.

Across from the Verizon store or in the same strip mall??

    2. Panera (try their orange scones...delicious) and The Corner Bakery (superb muffins)are tops on my list

      1. Chez Nous on Riverside Drive in Toluca Lake/North Hollywood.

        1. Pain Quotidien on Ventura near Whitsett. Good coffee too.

          1. Shalom Bakery has EXTRAORDINARY croissants baked fresh daily in very small batches. They come in five varieties: plain, chocolate, cheese, ham and cheese, thyme. The thyme is savory. My favorite is a tie between the chocolate and the cheese. High quality!

They are located 1 block from the corner of Sepulveda and Ventura on Ventura Blvd, opposte side of the street from Romans.

Is it just me or does it seem strange that a bakery named Shalom Bakery bakes and sells a ham and cheese croissant?

The name does not necessarily mean it's a kosher bakery.

Shalom says, "Hello" to non-Kosher items.

La Galette is listed at armeniandirectory.com.

Unless google doesn't know about it, there's no shop specifically called "Shalom Bakery". Would you check the name and get back to me? Thx!

                    Might it be http://lagalettepastry.com?

                  3. One of my favorite croissants in the LA area is in Studio City, at the Sunday Farmer's Market. Look for a bakery called "Traditions of Provence" or TOP Bakery. He sells many different flavors, as well as brioche, bread, macaroons, etc. His butter croissant is buttery, flaky and generously sized.

Tried the Studio City Farmers Market one, and was impressed. Best one so far...

Glad you liked it. I was there this weekend too, and they're still as good as ever. They're also big enough for a breakfast sandwich, which is what I wound up doing with them.
