Kefir grains in Halifax, NS?

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if anyone know where I can get kefir grains in Halifax, Nova Scotia?

I would appreciate any help on this matter.

Cheers!

if you're still looking for good grains, I bought mine cheap from rancheracres.com, they have a farm in the valley and we got water kefir grains 2 weeks ago and they have grown to the point where we have to find someone who wants some near Pictou. We paid $7 for 1/4 cup of grains. They also have milk kefir. Check them out.

There's a grain store next door to Cousin's Snack Bar at 2389 Agricola Street. Worth a look perhaps.

It's called The Grainery and the opening hours are rather erratic. Give them a call.

Thanks everyone for your help! I managed to find milk kefir grains from a lovely lady in Halifax. Making kefir at home is so easy and delicious!

I've been looking for some kefir grains in Halifax as well. I had contacted a few people I found listed on a website but never received a reply. If anyone has some to spare or know of a local source I would love to pick up some and try this on my own as well. Thanks.

Freeze dried Kefir grains can be purchased on EBay (some sell for the cost of shipping only - very reasonable). The starter packages and health food kefir do not have the grains and will exhaust themselves quickly. There are a few folks in Halifax that will give you grains if you contact them. I received my dried kefir grains (both for dairy and water kefir for ginger beer) from ebay 3 years ago, they just keep growing and produce a great kefir.

I don't know for sure, but Planet Organic seems a good bet.

I called Planet Organic and they don't carry it. They used to carry the kefir starter kit but haven't for a long time.

I am positive I've seen the starter kits in the fridge of the natural foods section at Superstore.
