Brooklyn For Dinner with 4 College kids
Hey Chowhounders,
I am visiting a friend from college in NYC. We are all pretty adventurous with food but we don't have a huge budget. Looking for a cool hip place in Brooklyn with great food and entrees hopefully less than 20 bucks. any suggestions? A good beer and spirits list would be ideal as well.
thanks

Roberta's is those things - waiting at busy times is definitely a possibility but its priced very well (sharing a mix of pizza and non pizza food 20 buck is an easily met price point) good drinks and some more adventurous things even though its not always apparent on the menu (for example the lamb breast is a lot more than it appears).

Couldn't agree more about Roberta's which will even be adventurous getting to.
That said, if you have a bent for Thai food, any of the following will do: Joya (Cobble Hill), Song (Park Slope) or National (Fort Greene) are kinda hip spaces and have good-sized dishes for the money. Pad See Yu and Pad Kee Mao our favorites, also Prik King (Chicken with string beans and chilipaste).
One other strong rec: Paulie Gee's Pizza on Greenpoint Avenue...you can read more by searching this board.

re: Mike R.
if you like fried chicken and delicious pies, Pies and Thighs is inexpensive and delicious. Not the fanciest beer and wine list, but it's affordable

If your schedule is flexible and you like oysters, hit up the happy hour at Maison Premiere when the oysters are a dollar each! get there early! great liquor list
