Perhaps I am a bit late (late Fall maybe better?), but I am looking for restaurants which have some game (venison, antelope, wild boar, etc.) on their menu. Some years ago we ate ate at North Pond where I had squab/quail and was cautioned to watch out for the buckshot (how cool!). Live in Uptown but will travel anywhere throughout the city. Thx!!
Frontier (1072 N. Milwaukee Ave) may fit the bill. Their current menu features Venison, Elk, Boar, and Rabbit, among other things. One item in particular that may appeal to you:
HUNTER'S CASSOULET - $20
Ostrich, Antelope, Mutton, Great Northern White Beans, Smoked Boar Boudin
I've been once, and had Oysters (good selection & fresh) and Duck Tacos (good, not outstanding). Nice beer selection as well from what I remember. Fun/casual atmosphere.
I don't know of any place that specializes in game. Cafe Bohemia was in the West Loop for many years and used to feature game, but they've been gone for a while now. Now, you can take your chances (or try calling ahead to ask) at some of our more adventurous upscale restaurants, such as North Pond, Blackbird, TRU, goosefoot, etc.
If you want to take a shot at preparing it yourself, they carry frozen game of various kinds at Zier's, the terrific butcher in Wilmette.
