Birthday Dinner- Del Posto/Scarpetta/Esca?

  • 3

My husband made reservations at three restaurants for my birthday and is letting me decide- We've been to Del Posto and really enjoyed it, so I wanted to try something new- I've heard better things about Scarpetta as opposed to Esca. Thoughts?
Thanks so much!

  1. For me, Scarpetta is better than Esca.

If you're open to other Italian suggestions, I'd also recommend Marea or Lincoln.

    Esca
402 West 43rd Street, New York, NY 10036

    Scarpetta
355 West 14th Street, New York, NY 10014

    Marea
240 Central Park South, New York, NY 10019

    Lincoln
    142 W 65th St, New York, NY 10023

    1. Scarpetta.

If you want to try something new, don't go to another Batali restaurant: his food is extremely formulaic.

      1. Hands down Del Posto. Depending how long it's been since you were last there, the menu's likely completely different aside from a few of the signature dishes.

Scarpetta and Esca are both excellent, and of the two I'm probably a bit fonder of the latter, but I'm big on seafood in general so that could be why. I prefer Scarpetta's neighborhood, though. I don't do Midtown much.

That said, it's not like you'll have a BAD meal at any of them.
