Make your own knife block. DIY.

Flipping through a craft site, I found this:

I thought some chowhounds would enjoy making this. Doesn't look all that difficult.

    My bf made one of these for me several years ago. He used a round ceramic container as the base. I love it (and I love the way it looks, too).

      I wonder how the price would compare with the Wüsthof Create-a-Set 13-slot block (with honing steel and shears) currently on sale at Cutlery and More for $29.95. I was looking for a block without knives of the right size and at a reasonable price for a long time, until I found this deal. It's perfect, and it was almost free.

        I did really consider making it. In fact, you don't even have to make it with any hand tool. Just buy a bucket a lot of bamboo stew sticks. At the end, I made the more traditional version.
