Hawk's Tavern (Mill Valley)

I'd swear I read a post or two here about the new Hawk's Tavern in Mill Valley, but now I can't find any mention of the place. Did they run afoul of Chowhound rules? Anyway, I went there for lunch last week and was (1) impressed with the quality of the fish and chips ($13 for a fairly small order) but (2) very unimpressed with the Stepford-wife-scripted server's spiels that just wouldn't stop. Does the management think their customers are brain dead or what? I also remember such a complaint from the now-disappeared comments, so it's definitely a management policy, not a one-off server issue. I won't be going back.

  1. So the quality didn't off-set the server?

Not for me; others will have different opinions or reactions. The many scripted lines just made a bad experience for me and I see no reason to set myself up for that. It's not like it's the only good food around.

    2. Hawk's Tavern seems to have reinvented itself once again. I haven't been since the new French chef arrived and they also changed from small plates to normal apps and mains. It's probably time for me to give it a try again. Or maybe someone else will go first. Here's a Marin IJ review of the new incarnation.

The French reinvention didn't last long. SFgate reports that it's closed.
