Near 12th and Sansom

I know there are a ton of places...I'm looking for kind of casual within walking distance for dinner. Looking for someplace I haven't been (so that rules out Barbuzzo, Lolita, El Vez, The Dandelion, Good Dog, Oyster House). It doesn't have to be a new place, there are probably plenty of standards I've missed. Let 'er rip...

See, I forgot about Garces...been to Kanella and my dining companion is not a sushi eater. Thanks.

That's where I would go, dining partner doesn't think pizza is special enough. Pizza is the food of the gods, if you ask me.

      2. When? If it's tonight (or any Tuesday), there's Ladder 15's $20 Tuesday night prix fixe. It's an incredible value for David Ansill's food. If you consider Dandelion to be near 12th and Sansom then there are tons of places.

Tomorrow night. I KNOW there are tons of places. Maybe we'll just wander the streets.

Wait until Thursday and then go to the new Fish. There is the Corner, Smokin Betty's, or the Farmer's Cabinet (never been to any of em though). I guess Raw is out. Spraga? Vetri?

The Corner is pretty good. Smokin' Betty's was great the first time I went, but not really on the second visit.

The Corner is OK, but there's better in the area. I've always found Smokin Betty's to be pretty mediocre (I'm actually quite surprised it's still open, given the better options nearby). I LOVE Tria, although if Zavino isn't "special" enough, Tria may not be either. Varga is pretty good, albeit also on the casual side.

Surprised no one has mentioned Sampan. Great asian fusion in the same area.

Smokin Betty's is still there and still has wretched service.

              1. Time, Vintage...Zinc Bistro, Caribou Cafe...

I haven't tried Vedge yet, but word is it's fabulous...

                1. Opa is on Sansom, just west of 13th, but I haven't really heard anything about it.

My pizza-adverse friend bailed, so I went to Zavino. Grabbed a seat at the bar and enjoyed a couple glasses of Merlot and a wonderful butternut squash soup. Had the Margherita pizza. Enjoyed the sauce, but found the crust to be doughy. The cheese was a minor player/ All in all, a pleasant respast on a cold night.
