Cheap, quality take-out

cloey Dec 29, 2011 04:31 PM

Our recent college grad living in NOLA always complains there aren't enough good "cheap, good take-outs" We're from Seattle where teriyaki abounds, great pizza by the slice, great local drive-in hamburger joint and good local Mexican food. Please advise on anything like those you can recommend. Always, thanks in advance!

He's out of school but lives on Valence. I haven't been there yet. I think they're a few blocks from Magazine and I'm embarassed to say I don't know what their neighborhood is called. He has a car and works in Metairie so can get around.

I like Slice Pizzeria on Magazine near his house. There’s about to be a new Vietnamese Pho restaurant on Magazine as well. I think he’s right about upper Magazine, though, not much great take-out. There’s more options further down Magazine between Washington and Louisiana. If you want ethnic options, Mona’s has pretty good Middle Eastern and there’s an Ethiopian restaurant called Abyssinia that’s very good for take-out.

Good is in the mouth of the beholder but cheap is pretty much mom n pop ethnic, often out of a corner grocery. while the Feret street places are good they aren't cheap.

In what area of Metairie does he work as there are some good choices there.

Some of the groceries are good choices, Dorignac's, Rouses, Langenstiens, for portions that can make up several meals when paired with salad.
