Suggestions for outing with vegetarian?

Of course there is The Coup, but I am looking for a nice restaurant to take my good friend for a post-Christmas celebration as she is only in town every couple of years.
She is a strict vegetarian (no fish) but does eat dairy. We did the cheese fondue at Table a couple of years ago.

  1. If you are willing to head up to Edmonton, Padmanadi is a lovely indonesian vegetarian place I dream about whenever I plan a trip north to the capital. Lurve all their dishes, especially the mushroom entree- rapturous. Along with their veggie mutton curry and lo han noodles. They also have a pretty good selection of desserts too.

I've often asked them to consider coming to Calgary.

    1. my wife is vegetarian and let me say that in general, restaurants in Calgary do a really poor job of offering up a good vegetarian option. Most stick to the wild mushroom risotto or pasta primavera thing, and it gets really tiresome. Seriously chefs, try harder.

Having said that, most restaurants will either have an option or will put one together for you (notable exceptions: model milk, catch). We've had especially good luck at Blink. Any of the new pizza places in town would be a safe bet also (WOP, una, double zero, etc). We were just at Cassis Bistro over the holidays and the chef there also put together a really nice vegetarian main on demand.

      1. thank you for the suggestions! much appreciated!
