Properly storing the Bubbly

I've been storing a nice bottle of champagne in my fridge, thinking dark and constant temperature were good things. Life happens, and before I've realized, it's been in there a year. I guess I have to open it to really see if it has degraded...or is it a sure bet it's gone bad?

I'll bet it's fine. Let us know on New Years Day?

full of bubbles, no off, beer-like flavor, no worries. I did have it stored horizontally, wondering if that saved me, whatever....my resolution is to drink a nice champagne immediately, why save it? I may not be around to enjoy it later

Not to mention, refrigerators vibrate. This could have a shaken soda effect on it after that long. Open with care.

One problem is that the humidity of a fridge isn't ideal, as it is typically too dry and consequently can dry out a cork and affect its integrity, especially if the bottle was stored upright. I'll bet the cork is tough to remove. Taste may be affected as well as effervescence. Bon Chance.

If the cork has dried somewhat, as is likely, be careful when you remove the wire cage. The cork may exit VERY quickly, along with the cage. I'd be surprised if the champagne is compromised a whole lot though.
