Got a 3- crock slow cooker for Christmas, I love it- but I need some ideas!!!

athina Dec 27, 2011 12:40 PM

Hey guys! I would like some ideas, 3 items, that I would make simultaneously, that would cook well in a slow cooker/ crock pot. Each crock has its own separate thermostat, so you can cook things at different temps.I just cant seem to think of 3 things I'd cook at the same time, for the same meal, that cook in crocks....I know you guys can help me think of ideas!! For example, if I made pork carnitas in one of the crocks- what would/could I make in the of the crocks? same goes if I were to make a stew, what would I use the other crocks for? I would imagine they would all have to be "wet" items-soups, stews, braises, sauces...I'm sure there are some creative folks out there! Thanks in advance!!

Your new gift sounds like a wonderful idea to serve on a buffet table. I've seen other requests for your question and there weren't many situations that came up for actually using all three chambers as slow cookers. Perhaps the manufacturer's website could give you some ideas.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the three chamber crock pots--perfect for a buffet but not something I'd use on a daily basis, especially since one isn't big enough for what I'd normally do. I don't want to deal w/ three types of soups or chilies or puller pork or pasta for a regular dinner--one is enough.

I love the indian idea--curry chicken, palek paneer, chana masala; rice in the rice cooker.

Let's see--maybe a pulled pork, a creamed corn pudding and collards? Short ribs, polenta, another greens? Spaghetti squash casserole, braised chicken thighs, sour cream mashed potatoes?

Three different soups for a soup bar.
        Plain sauce, meatballs, and ziti
white chili, red chili and slow cooker bread or cornbread
Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese
        pork chops, rice, baked apples
brunch: oatmeal, applesauce, eggs supreme, grits, strata, souffle
You could do three separate things and have dinners ready for the whole week!

You can do strata in a slow cooker?

Gumbo, red beans and rice, and jambalaya!! OK and this is a far reach but you coulud do different braised cabbages with pork. The reason I say this is because I am Danish. Our red cabbage is very different from the German style. We don't use apple or caraway.

One thing with a slow cooker. Beware the fat and grease. I pretty much trim off all the fat I can.

Wow!!! so many great ideas! Thank you! I would never have even thought about breakfast! -I could keep hollandiase sauce for eggs benedict! Or keep the maple syrup warm! soup bar sounds fun too! or even a pasta bar!

You could do pulled pork with different types of bbq sauce. You could go for a north carolina vinegar, maybe a maple or hickory smoked? I can also see like a Caribbean black bean soup vs a senate bean soup vs a southwestern tortilla bean soup.

              Beef chili/chicken chili/veggie chii.

Indian lentils/Indian chickpeas/potatoes&cauliflower (okay, maybe just keeping the last one warm)
