Man Bites Dog

ericthered Dec 27, 2011 07:51 AM

Just wanted to share this with all. Went to Man Bites Dog on Burnett Ave and it was truely an experince. I had the "Hair of the Dog" which is a 1/4 pound dog wrapped in bacon, then deep fried and topped with chili, cheese and a fried egg. It was just great.

And I hope your life insurance policy is paid up!! My son likes them very much too. I have not been there yet and probably won't because I am really p----d at them. I was going to buy my son a gift certificate from them, called three times and got a recording that said leave a message and they would call back ( this was the 24th) so finally drove down there in the rain to find they were closed. What angers me so much is that I have this funny belief in good customer service as being an essential to success in a business. I believe they should have changed their phone message to reflect their change in operating hours. The website had nothing as well about their closing early. In a similar vein, I will be ranting about the incredibly silly website of Justine's elsewhere.

Sorry you had a bad experience, Singlemalt. Particularly on Christmas eve and yes in the rain. You would think that customer goodwill would be foremost in their business model since much of their advertising is word-of-mouth. Only reason I go there at all is that I work close by. I live in Georgetown and would not make the drive just to load up on the cholesteral. Believe me, if "She Who Must Be Obeyed" knew, it would bode ill for me and I would not hear the end of it.

Just asking: did you expect them to be open on the 24th? They definitely should have changed their phone message and website. Maybe they were busy shopping and trip planning for a much-needed coupla days off and it slipped their mind.

I live 2 minutes away from there - I can drop by and ask about the gift cert if you want (although it is after Christmas). Maybe a birthday gift?

I have tried to ask them questions, very politely and kindly, on their website and out of 3 times I have never received a response. I suspect theyt hate custoemr service. I won't be going there any more (but I did used to visit them quite often in their trailer on S First)

            What questions do you have?

It's too late now, but I asked on your website twice, once in October, and once in November, if you used New England Style hot dog (lobster roll) buns. And early last year (previous year?) a question about the coupon usage I bought off of... Groupon? Eversave? One of those guys.

I also left a suggestion for a cucumber kimchi dog one of the times I asked about lobster roll buns - not that that required a response, but just to help jog your memory and/or track down my inquiry.

-sw (who had two cucumber kimchi dogs for lunch)

I do remember, and again I apologize for not responding. All the emails come to me, and I do try to respond to all of them, but running the restaurant and ensuring the service there is great is my first responsibility.

But to answer your question, we don't use Lobster rolls, we use Kolache bread. The Kolache Shop on Burnet Road makes them for us. But I'd bet they would work well for a Lobster Roll.

I'll second that. The folks at the counter and in the kitchen communicate often about the order and making sure everything is covered.

"but running the restaurant and ensuring the service there is great is my first responsibility. "

Sorry to disagree, but somehow I have my doubts about the above.

There's no excuse for not answering emails, but I just wanted to throw in that the customer service in the restaurant is exceptional. We've been several times, and although it's counter service, the employees always check in and ask if you need refills, or just make sure you're happy.

Y'all sure are pretty demanding of a friggin indoor hotdog cart. I think its pretty good for what it is...a hot dog joint.

Dinging a perfectly good hot dog for not answering a question via email about buns seems a little silly to me. especially since i've never had anything but a perfectly pleasant experience the half dozen or so times I've eaten there.

I was a customer of theirs many times when they were on S FIrst street, and explained that in my message. But I couldn't remember the oversized bun. It only takes a few seconds to answer a question like that.

Had a good greek dog but my lady had an ice cold corn dog. She sent it back and it was still ice cold but now encased in a darker almost burnt shell. Fries were decent and we had a good game of connect four.

Try the George Froman dog if you like Chicago style dogs. They've opened a new location on South Lamar for those of you that live down that way. He started out with a food cart and now has two places. Hope he doesn't lose it and become a victim of his own success

I've had the Greek Dog a few times and really like it. We always share an order of the fried pickles too. My son is a Hair of the Dog fan and more recently the one with pulled pork on it. I can't eat like that but it works for him. I think they are kind of expensive, but good.

In honor of the new year and a lack of cholesterol in my blood we are arranging a lunch outing to the Burnet store tomorrow.

Just got back from a fine lunch of the boss dog, tater tots and pulled pork mac and cheese. I need a nap.
