Decent Italian for 25 on a Sunday night near Carnegie

So my brother in law is playing a concerto at Carnegie in January. He has lots of family coming in and would like to take everyone out after. Needs to be at least pretty good and have space for a party that big.
Thanks!

here's where you should NOT go: trattoria dell'arte...on 7th between 56/57th. we went there with out of town friends because we going to see 'the messiah' at carnegie. the food was awful and the service was not good...we were upstairs in a claustrophobic mezzanine where the drinks/service bar smelled really sour as we passed it on the way to our table. and wildly wildly overpriced. we had eaten at la masseria for lunch and it was dignified and with good food. i passed by angelo's and it looked just fine, frankly.
congratulations to your brother. what a lovely occaision!

I live in the neighborhood, and eat at Angelo's often. The pizza is excellent, and the family-size salads are plentiful, fresh, and well-prepared. The arugula salad is particularly good. They have an upstairs section they can outfit with long tables for a large group. I highly recommend it for a reasonable, informal get-together. There are not too many other choices in the immediate area.

We need more specifics? Is the concert a matinee or in the evening. If the latter, what time will it end? Many restaurants close earlier on Sunday than on other days. Would you consider cuisines other than Italian? With a party that size, you would most probably need a private room, and the restaurant will probably want to do a package. So, what's the budget?

Concert is at three. Dinner at 6 or 6:30. Budget= not too expensive. Hoping for Italian.

People's idea of "not to expensive" can differ radically depending on the depth of their bank accounts. So, you need to tell us how much your brother is thinking of spending. And is that figure just for food? Or must it include alcoholic beverages, nearly 9% tax & the 20% tip the restaurant will automatically apply for a group your size.

Ok thanks for the help. He says $20-25/head before tax/tip/booze.

Angelo's Pizza is right near Carnegie Hall, on 57th, b/t 6th & 7th. We've never been, but reports from Hounds who have are always positive. There is more on the menu than just pizza. So, give them a call and see if they can accommodate you at this price point.

Btw, I've checked Carnegie Hall's schedule for Sundays in January, and the only performance by a solo artist at 3 p.m. (Jan 29th) is Adam Gyorgy. Is he your brother-in-law?

He's playing the Mozart clarinet concerto with the Met opera orchestra. I think it's on the 13 th or 14th.

Sunday is the 15th. So, he's either Anthony McGill or Stephen Williamson.

Let us know if Angelo's will work out for you.
