'Christmas Strawberries' Cookie Recipe?

I was at a cookie exchange and had a small cookie that looked like a strawberry. It tasted like coconut--which I do not even like--but it was still a really great cookie.

I found 2 recipes that seem pretty different... so I wondered if anyone had a good recipe for this mystery cookie...

Here are the two I found... Ideas? Suggestions?

Haven't thought of these in years--and NEVER thought of them as a Christmas cookie. In fact, they were a common treat after Friday night services at the synagogue my family attended when I was a child. Here's the recipe from the sisterhood cookbook:
      1 lb ground nuts
      14 oz package coconut
1 bottle (1 oz) red food coloring
      2-3 egg whites
      red sugar crystals

Mix first four ingredients together. Roll in balls, then roll into red sugar crystals. Put artificial green leaf on top and place into individual paper candy cups.
