hey chowhound peeps :)

need some help! looking for a Saturday night dinner (8pm) downtown around King and University preferably.. anywhere that's a 10 minute walk max from there.

It's my 21st birthday, they MUST take reservations (as it is a big group), be open late.

Did my last birthday at Joey's - was a really good atmosphere. Want something similar. $20 mains.
Drinks menu should be affordable too.

Already called Earls & The Keg - won't take reservations, even after I told them that we'd easily spend over $400.

Thank you so much! Happy Holidays :)

Sorry this is so late but maybe for next year? I was walking through Yorkville and quite a few places were open that fit the "Joey" type criteria. And your a 5 min subway ride from King and Uni.

Creme was open and the place on the corner but I can't remember the name. Hemingways might fit the bill too! I know a lot of people 20-25 that have birthday parties there.

How many people? The Drake might work, although you might feel young compared to the rest of the crowd. They take reservations for groups of 8-10, more if required.

Check www.opentable.com , to see which restaurants take reservations for groups your size. Would think selecting the $$ range would be roughly equivalent to $20 mains.

ps- The Drake is further than a 10 minute walk from University, but would be within a 15 minute streetcar ride of Queen & University.

Opentable usually only allows parties of 6 or fewer.

Your budget is your budget and it's quite reasonable and understandable but lets take a moment for a reality check, you plan to spend around 400 for a party of 12? that's less then 35 a person. I can understand why a restaurant may not leap at the chance to bend their usual rules to accommodate your party, big groups are hard, they disrupt the room, they slam the kitchen and (not suggesting this would apply to you) they are notoriously bad tippers (hence the usual autograt policies for such places).

If you didn't have the geographic limits you've specified I'd suggest 7 numbers on the Danforth, they're well within your price range and they are set up for large parties in the back half of the restaurant, I see a lot of birthday parties and hen parties and the like in there.

a dozen people isn't really that big of a group and you will probably be able to walk into Earls downtown in a couple of weeks without much problem-maybe 10 minutes to wait while they organize the table.
