Seeking books about Coffee
Hi there -
I'm looking for a book that gives some guidance about how to choose coffee. How to discern flavors, what to pay attention to when smelling the beans, and, basically, how to decide what to buy.
Not so interested in how to grind it, brew it, the history of it -- but if that's a small part of the book, that's OK.
Thank you in advance!
Sara
Omnivore would be the most likely place to find such a thing.

Sounds like a workshop with tastings might be more useful to you than a book. Coffee has a lot of aspects (aroma, flavor) that are matters of taste and don't necessarily translate to words. http://www.passionforcoffee.com/enjoy...
You could buy a few ounces of a variety of coffees (from light to dark roast, different regions) and have a tasting with a friends. Ritual Roasters used to have cuppings you could join once a month. Not sure if they still do.
For what it's worth, I learned more about coffee by trying different methods of preparation and roasting it myself.

The Perfect Cup by Timothy James Castle, Aris Books, 1991. Subtitle: A Coffee Lover's Guide to Buying, Brewing, and Tasting.
If you can't find it, Powell's Books has it.
