Hi, I'll be visiting L.A. with my mom to see family. We're staying in Hollywood at the Magic Castle Hotel and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good new year's day brunch that we could have poolside, or on a patio with a nice view? I'm coming down from Toronto so I thought it would be nice to eat outdoors while I can :) We will not have a car so may be relying on public transit/taxis - but if we're dining with family, they all have cars so we'd be more mobile. I'd prefer to find a place that we can get to without a car, in case it's just the two of us. Type of food and price don't matter, we're flexible on both.

  1. There aren't that many great options walking distance from the Magic Castle. The one off the top of my head is Yamashiro which is right next door but a little ways up a hill. If you get seated near the window you'll have great view of Hollywood. It's Japanese cuisine so I'm not sure if Brunch is best here. For places close enough via public transit, I'd recommend Eveleigh in West Hollywood on Sunset. They have a beautiful patio and the brunch is really delicious. The London West Hollywood also has a great rooftop restaurant. You definitely need to make reservations for this one since you aren't a guest staying at the London.

If you have a car, Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica has a great patio dining area with a perfect view of the ocean. Their brunch is always good but I would call ahead for reservations. They usually have set menus for holiday brunches and seats tend to fill up pretty quick.

The Huntley in Santa Monica also has a rooftop restaurant that's gorgeous. It's a little sceney so if you're looking for something more casual, I'd go to Shutters.

Hope this helps jumpstart your search. Enjoy LA!

    1. About a 15-20 minute cab ride away is one of the nicest brunches in Los Angeles at Scarpetta Beverly Hills. On the expensive side but wonderful food including Cold Water Oysters, King Crab Legs, Shrimp Cocktail Stone Crab Claws and all their Italian specialties. Here is their brunch menu at this link:

If you have a car I recommend Fig in Santa Monica and yes you can dine pool side.

A Caveat: I have not been to the Hotel Bel Air since it reopened, after extensive remodeling. I recall many wonderful lunches and brunches in the gardens . You may just want to check. i can not think of a more beautiful setting.

      2. Thanks for the replies, they're great! Happy holiday chowing :)
