Dinner near London Hotel or Gershwin Theatre

Hello...helping out a friend for his trip to NYC

He is looking for a good place near the London Hotel or Gershwin Theatre 51st and 7th Ave

No particular food criteria other than good - looking for a few options in that area - he mentioned French, however that isnt a must if there are better options closer

The pricepoint would need to be $100pp or less not counting drinks - him and his wife are fairly adventurous eaters

Just got a txt from my friend that dinner at The Modern was worth every penny and they are off to the theatre

Though my dear friend ellenost adores Ma Peche, we've only been there once (for lunch) and I didn't love it. Not that it was in any way bad, just not my favorite style of cuisine.

I much prefer French and so I'm with Cheeryvisage with regard to The Modern, which is French with Alsacian influences. We've enjoyed delicious meals in both the Bar Room and the Dining Room. Which one should your friends choose? It depends on whether they want a casual atmosphere or something more fancy/formal. (Note: A jacket is not required in the Dining Room.)

Actually, I would recommend The Modern Dining Room over the Bar Room. The preparation, presentation, and service are at a higher level at the Dining Room.

Your friend might enjoy Ma Peche. I was there last week for dinner, and had another great dinner (scallops, "Juliet" steak). Service was very friendly and attentive. The cuisine is French-Vietnamese. They have a chocolate dessert that is my favorite dessert of all of the Momofuku restaurants (and possibly any restaurant--yes, it's that good!). Ma Peche is located on West 56 Street between Fifth and Sixth Aves.
