ISO Cedar Plank in S. Bay, Peninsula, or East Bay, CA [moved from General Chowhounding Topics]

In your travels have you seen any cedar planks for roasting / grilling a whole filet of salmon? Not enough time to mail order one for Christmas Eve dinner. TIA.

Silly me thought that they were a seasonal item, and nowhere to be found! Happy, happy, Joy, joy!

Just get some scrap cedar from your local lumber yard. It won't have beveled edges or smooth edges even, so watch out for splinters. Much cheaper, like $1 instead of $10.

Edited to add: Be sure it's untreated.

Melanie I might have had to resort to your suggestion however they're to be found at several other places. Thanks all the same.

Lowe's has them. "Fire & Flavor Cedar Grilling Planks." I'd paste a link but chow.com breaks it.

Two planks to a pack. $3.50 each.

Lumber yard cedar can have toxic chemicals added and they won't necessarily know.

I've seen them at Cost Plus World Market, but I'm not sure if they'd have them at this time of year.

While it's a seasonal item at Costco here in the Midwest, I'm not sure how that applies to you Californians. Williams-Sonoma also carries them, not sure if they're in all stores.

This probably belongs on the SF Bay Area board. That being said, I've certainly seen them at Sur La Table, but best to call in advance to make sure it's in stock!
