Need restaurant recommendation for birthday party!
I am looking for a fun place to have a birthday party. Most guests will be in their early-mid thirties - want something not too expensive, preferrably on upper west or upper east or midtown - but will take any recommendations - anywhere in Manhattan or North Jersey. Type of food doesn't matter but I want a place that is fun, good ambience, ideally some dancing, or some good music, show, something fun going on so that it is not just sitting and eating. Please recommend! TIA.
Depends。 If you want a landed gentry level of place to go, of a more genteel atmosphere, I recommend Xai Xia, this is Xai Xai Winebar at 369 W51 just off 9th.
The food is prepare very elegantly, and the atmosphere offered is most relaxing.
The food items on the menu range from cured meats at ￥7 dollar a plate (Speck; Cured Ham Droewors; Biltong) , artisnal cheeses at $5 dollars a plate (Humbolt Fog Ashed Goat; Old Chatham Farm Camembert; Lively Run Cayuga Blue etc.)
Small plates are all ￥9， and includes such items as Peri-Peri Mozambican Prawn and Rice, Braai'dOstrich Mini Burgers (2), Deviled Chicken Livers (w/ toast), Truffle Biltong Mac and Cheese, Grilled Eggplant and Goat Cheese, Baked Rocotta with Stewe Pinotage Grapes, and more.
The wine is what makes it a great place for a birthday party, with a very nice selection of some of the best from South Africa。 The rather nice delicate portions of food go so well with any or most of the wine on offer.
And most days dollar oysters，they good very so good， better than what I have had at Clam place thing on Mulberry.
Now, if you are looking for a place with a feel that is less refined but contains a nice relaxing atmosphere that also provides a quesi-party atmosphere, with excellent selection of food items with portions that are in the direction of the kind that will fill one's stomach, then in the same area, on 9th Ave. is Patron Mexican Grill.
This may be a very good bet if you are planning to drink alot. They have happy hour prices on Margaritas all hours they are open, and the food is quite good. I had quite the time there eating, and whether did not permit me to leave, so stayed on and had a splendid time with the creative innovations of the waitress combining various liquids concoction in a Margaretta style.
The typical mexican fare with a nice presentation on plates served, from Pajitas, Quesadillas, Enchiladas, Chiles Rellenos, Tubada (seafood paella with green rice, mussels, clams, shrimp, octopus, scallops, chorizo, topped with cotija cheese and piquillo peppers) Yucatan Style Cochinita Pibil (lowly roasted pork butt and pork shoulder marinated in achiote sauce with banana leaf, topped with habanero red pickled onions and served with rice and beans）。
The wait staff of attractive young ladies both Mexican and domestic are very friendly and accomodating to the guests, whether questions are concerning the food menu or concerning help understanding the huge selection of items within the Margaritta arena they make.
Patrons has two locations on 9 Ave。 and I have only been to there 608 9th Ave lcation. The other location is at 772 9th Ave. on the same side of the street as I have past by this many times.
There are so many other places, though just confining yourself to a few choices might be the best bet, afterwards consider the guests and their tastes.
