If you are in the mood for a casual, upscale bistro (oxymoron?), then try Bistro Verdu in Montrose.

I'd been hearing that Dish (on Foothill in La Cañada) had been losing its edge, but recently got an explosive rave about it from some friends who'd just dropped in to check it out. I haven't been there in over a year, but I guess it's time to go back...American classics carefully done, fair prices, full bar.

Divina Cucina for Italian. La Cabañita for really good Mexican (try the mole sauce on something). Havana Beach Cafe for Cuban. Ka-San for Korean. Star Cafe for quasi-Italian pasta type stuff. Joseph's Cuisine for kabobs. Olive Branch for Persian. Black Cow for coffee and dessert.

I would also recomend if you you're going on Fri. to order the lobster bisque at Black Cow. A cup is HUGE. Creamy w/o being too creamy and lots of lobster taste. Unlike another some restaurant that uses potatoes to thicken the soup.
