Crabmeat...Best price & where to buy in SF?

I'm looking for the best price on fresh shelled crabmeat per pound. Does anyone know a good source at a reasonable price? Thanks!

I haven't shopped around, but the Whole Foods in Potrero Hill is selling lump crabmeat for about $13/lb.

Dungeness? That's really cheap. Yield is about 25% so 1/2 pound from a 2 pound crab plus labour. It's usually closer to $24.

That makes sense, and I suspect I misread the sign. Maybe that was the price for 8 oz? Sorry if I'm mistaken. You can always give them a call and get the current price from the fish department.

Big Big Al (of blessed memory) used to console himself at the cost of anything whose price he thought too dear (which was most things) with the mantra "You'd hate to make it yourself for that". Well would you? Steam, crack and pick a couple of 2 pound crabs for about twenty bucks? Don't forget to wrap all the remains up in two paper bags and place IMMEDIATELY in the green bin or face horrid stink and maybe argentine ants in the morning,(for some reason they love the detritus). I myself don't mind, since as the old joke goes "But what's time to a pig?"
            You may feel otherwise.

I found crabmeat at Andronicos in SF on sale for $26.99 lb. Not as cheap as Costco, but it saves me from having to face the insanity of that place.

And Al, I understand your point, but people who do that for a living are all set up for the production aspect and can do it faster than me. No comparison there.
