Nut Free GELT!
A person from another board I post on needed nut free gelt for a school party. I did suggest she come here and ask, but I found some today for her. It seems as if PASKESZ makes *certain* packages that are NUT FREE!!! The boxes and bags are well marked. PLus the "kosher" Acme (on Montgomery in Narbert ) has them on sale this week 2 for $1. HTH someone!

Very late 18th or early 19th century.
If you crush cocoa beans you get a syrup (called "chocolate liquor") that will stay liquid, because its fat content is too low to harden. The trick to making it harden is thus to up the fat content. The way they do that is to take one batch of chocolate liquor and separate out the fat (called "cocoa butter") and add that to another batch. Do that and it will harden, but it won't be very good. Keep it hot while stirring it for 3-5 days straight, until it's silky smooth, and add sugar and possibly milk, and you have the eating chocolate we know. The difference in quality of different chocolates with the same cocoa content is mostly down to how long it's been stirred, and at what temperature.

From the context I assume you mean chocolate "gelt", not real gelt! It really p---es me off when people do that, especially where the context *doesn't* make it immediately obvious that they mean the fake stuff. It's as if people think that gelt means chocolate, and that there's some sort of Chanukah tradition associated with chocolate, which is ridiculous since solid chocolate was only invented 200 years ago, which is far too recent for any authentic traditions.

Um, did you not notice "From the context I assume you mean chocolate", and "where the context *doesn't* make it immediately obvious"?
And I can imagine someone with severe allergies worrying about money having been handled by someone with peanut-butter hands or something. In fact I'd imagine such a person would treat all money as potentially tainted with allergens.
