Sugar Cane / Mexican Coke: where to buy?

Hey Chow-ers! Hoping you could help me locate somewhere in montreal where I can find Mexican Coke, aka the version of Coca Cola they sell in Mexico that is made with REAL sugar cane sugar. It's for a christmas present...

Unfortunately, Iguanas Ranas has closed, or so I've been told! A big loss to Montreal's burgeoning "authentic" Mexican restaurant scene.

they were still open today when I passed by around 3 pm. Can't speak for the Mexi-coke, though.

      1. El Rey Del Taco at Jean-Talon Market seems to have a consistent stock of the tall bottles of "Made in Mexico" Coke, though I haven't been there since early fall. We've had it many times there in the past along with a variety of other mexican soft drinks.

        Good luck!

Just got back from El Rey Del Taco, and to my surprise it contains HFCS, and it is the genuine "Mexican" coke with the MX stamp on the bottle .. What a disappointment !!! Where can I get the "real stuff" in Montreal ????

            1. re: silvertint

How much were they charging for Mexican Coke containing HFCS?

              1. re: BLM

$3 a bottle, quite expensive imo for the same stuff found at couche-tard !!!!

          2. Not quite the same but...

I am but a gentile, but I'm told that leading up to Hanukkah and Passover (roughly coinciding with xmas and easter), Coca-Cola will batch Coke with cane sugar rather than HFCS. Apparently the Kosher diet forbids HFCS during these times (I'm guessing the corn?).

So you'd have to look for the special formulation in the Kosher sections.

With that said, I did try Kosher Passover Coke a few years ago, looking for that Mexican flavor. (I too have fond memories of Mexican Coke (and Fanta) in the bottle). The Canadian version wasn't as good as the Mexican...

Because of its cache, I realize Mexican Coke may better appeal as a Christmas present...but hey, you can give it a try.

Just Passover. No dietary restrictions on corn that I know of for Hanukkah.
