weekday lunch--Weiss' Deli, Noodle Pot or LOS??

daantaat Dec 17, 2011 05:14 PM

San Diego hounds coming for a few days over Christmas weekend and trying to figure out where to go for a good, casual lunch. Interested in Weiss' Deli, mostly b/c it was in David Sax's Save the Deli, but the reviews here and on Y*** are inconsistent. We are used to good deli, ie: Brent's in Northridge and if Weiss' doesn't come close to Brent's or anything in LA, then we'll skip it.

Noodle Pot interests us b/c we like nieu ro mien. Have been to Champion Noodle House a lot but feel like they have slipped since they moved to their new location, so we're open to checking somewhere else out.

LOS is a consistant board fave and somehow, we end up missing it. Main question is: is it easy to find parking or it is a pain b/c it's on the Strip?

We've been to China Mama, Yun Nan Garden, KJ Kitchen, Raku and Cathay House (dim sum), if that helps give you an idea of the quality we're after.

I'm not sure how you got the idea that LOS is on the strip, but it's in a strip mall east of the strip on Sahara (953 East Sahara). I'm a big fan of Noodle Pot but I'd definitely go to Lotus -- and parking is never a problem.

Even though I haven't been to Noodle Pot, I vote for Lotus, no contest, because it's such a great and unique place. Be sure to check hours, as they do close between lunch and dinner. And although the buffet is OK, you'll do FAR better ordering off the menu.

        Hey d..
LOS hands down...you will flip out on how good the Thai is..
I would go everyday at lunch for their off the menu..opens right at 11:30 am with a line.
It's in a divey strip mall on Sahara past the LV Hilton..about a mile from the strip.
I jones their food every single day and I'll give you $$ so you can bring me back some food..
        ; )

Hi, thanks for replying! Not sure where I got the idea LOS was on the Strip but if it's off Strip, then we're definitely going!

BC--hey, what are YOU doing over here??? ;-) Not sure if their food will last a trip back on SWA, but will think fondly of you!

Avoid Weiss deli. It doesn't come close to a good deli in L.A. or NYC. Service is spotty at best and the food isn't that good.

              LOL...I'm everywhere..

My DH and I wish we weren't on our way to Sedona vs. home, else we would of ordered tons of food from LOS and put it in the cooler...it is beyond that good!
Have fun and check out City Center and they have a 'secret pizza' place on the third floor of the Cosmopolitian that is off the chain good for a slice..very NYC style.
              Have a great time!

thanks for the pizza tip! We'll be going to the Cosmopolitan for Jaleo (too late for e). Still need to visit the LV mecca at Crystals...

Important point for the OP: LOS doesn't serve lunch on Sat or Sun.

BIG Brent's fan here... don't bother with Weiss. The food is good but totally offset by poor service.
LOS all the way, order off the menu as opposed to the buffet.

Weiss is nothing like Brent's. It's more like Abe's when all the regular cooks are off and 3/4 of the waitresses call in sick.

And the sad fact, it's the best deli in town.

Definitely go for the $20.11 lunch at Milo's in the Cosmopolitan.
