Memphis & Nashville

Hello! We will be in Memphis Dec. 31 and departing at some point on Jan. 1 bound for Nashville. I'd love recommendations on where to eat New Years Eve dinner and New Years Day traditional offerings.

In Nashville, any "must eats" before we depart on the 2nd back home for N.C. A real hidden gem?

Any recommendation except for Indian cuisine, and I'd love to keep the prices on the lower-end of the spectrum, as this is part of a larger trip.

Thank you all so much!

  1. Where are you staying? Stay downtown and walk to Beale Street and enjoy the neat bars and restaurants there. Here's a link to restaurants open on NY's Eve. Majestic Grille would be a great choice.

We're staying at The Peabody (something I have wanted to do since at least 3rd grade!). Thanks so much for the links and the tips! Happy holidays!

Walk around Beale Street in downtown Memphis, TN and visit the joints. Go in B B King's and Dyer's Burgers. Walk around the Peabody and then The Rendevous for some BBQ across the street from The PB. There are some nice restaurants in the area including Felicia Suzanne's for fine dining at dinner, McEwen's for fine dining, Restaurant Iris for fine dining at dinner only, Automatic Slims for drinks and bar food, Gus' World Famous Fried Chicken and South of Beale for good bar dining.
        Felicia Suzzane's @ 80 Monroe Ave., Memphis, TN 901 - 523 - 0877.

Oh my gosh - THANK YOU! That was so very kind of you to take so much time. I can't wait to try Memphis BBQ and see the flavor contrast to Eastern NC BBQ. Happy New Years, y'all! :-)

      2. Arnold's and Monell's are great favorites for good country food in Nashville. Pancake Pantry has outstanding breakfast.

Chez Philippe in the Peabody has been awarded 4 starts by Mobil (now Forbes) 22 years in a row. It's not cheap, but isn't New Year's Eve all about splurging? See link below.

Warning...Downtown will be crazy that night. The Liberyt Bowl is played that afternoon and the Memphis Tigers play at FedExForum (adjacent to Beale Street) that evening. Plus, it's always crowded down there on New Year's Eve. Have funa and enjoy.

Hell, we might have to make the trip! Every time I go to Memphis (about once a month on average) I love it more!

I like 1808 Grille in Nashville.

Ohhh! Thanks for the head's up. I need to think about adjusting our arrival time, then, to make sure we hit it while the game's are still going on. MANY thanks!

Good call on Pancake Pantry LM.

We ate there over the weekend and everyone's food was top notch. One thing I love is when you go to a place that's really good but they have a little something that sets them apart. In this case it's the Cinnamon Cream Sauce. They say it pairs well with the sweet potato pancakes (it does btw) but also goes well with the regular pancakes, toast, French toast, napkins, menus, flip flops, bark, well, just about anything I suspect.

              Ya, it's that good.

If you had to choose between Arnold's and Monell's for one country-style meal in Nashville, which would you choose? Thanks for any comments.

              2. I like Grill 83, located in the Madison. There are lots of small plate options, good for sharing, and you can order as much (or as little) as you like to stay within your budget. (Get the TN Blues Fries if you go!)

                1. How was your time in Memphis? Where did you eat?
