Restaurants in Sydney & other environs

I know I should look at all the boards first. But.... We're coming to Sydney, then to Hobart, then to Auckland & Wellington. We're (admit iti foodies from berkeley, ca. and like to sample whatever is good.

we heard that sydney has great asian restaurants --- thai, especially we'd be interested in, but anything else also.

suggestions for one "dinex" (albeit not necessarily expensive) in the above-mentioned locations would be welcome.

p.s. chowhound has been good to us in pittsburgh, mexico city, san diego, santiago, lima and san diego. we're counting on you guys....

ok, I'll take Hobart. you could read my posts for the long version - here is what I currently love:

      Smolt in salamanca
Monty's - not far from Salamanca
Garagistes - I like going early, 5 pm, before they get slammed. no bookings, communal tables

Pilgrim (on argyle near liverpool, say hi to Will)
Yellow Bernard (not open on wkends, say hi)
      Dr Coffee (salamanca)

go to Mona and then eat at their restaurant Source, take the ferry there
      Peppermint Bay

Sweet Envy - pecan sticky bun, go early, opens 830 am and the ice cream

right now there are great cherries, in general the produce is great. try cape grim beef. bruny island oysters. when are you getting here?

I'm happy to help w Hobart questions. If I had a day in Sydney I'd eat laksa and chat thai and Quay if I had the $$$$.
