Beantown treasure

I'm a frequent visitor to the Boston area, and each visit prompts me to try different restaurants. On the advice of the 'Where' magazine in the hotel lobby, I stopped by ThinkingCup just to try the recommended hazelnut latte--and I was not disappointed. It was delicious! So much so, that the next afternoon, I made it a point to stop by again, this time just for the prosciutto-caprese ciabatta with a cup of coffee. I should mention here that I dont eat sandwiches, and my coffees are often loaded with sugar. Here, however, the ciabatta made a fan out of me: all the ingredients, from the tomato to the cheese and the prosciutto, were incredibly fresh and they complimented each other perfectly (one taste didn't overpower the other, there wasn't too much of one or the other). And the coffee was just right: not too strong, but not weak either, and I didn't have to load the cup with sugar--just great! I ended my visit with the French hot chocolate--a sipping chocolate, for those who are expecting a regular sized cup--which is served in an espresso-sized serving. Very few places serve this, so I had to have it. I'm such a fan of this place and look forward to my next visit so that I can stop by for another cup of coffee.

Life without sandwiches is life without food. Bread (the right kind of course) makes everything taste better. Sandwiches and pasta make my world go around. Can't live without them. A lobster here and there isn't so bad either. And by the way, a lobster roll is a sandwich. A bagel with cream cheese, onion and lox is a sandwich. Haven't mentioned Boar's Head once. Ha!
    Enjoy,

I can't remember the last sandwich I made with cold cut meat.

My sandwiches are usually made with leftovers of something I made with some bread from one of the bakeries in my rotation.

      My favorites:
      roast lamb
      meatloaf
      meatballs
      grilled cheeses
      eggplant

After I finish eating cocodan's bagel and lox I'll stop by your place to help eat any of the above.

The door is always open to a fellow hound. Especially one who knows his way around a liquor store!

I've been on a tear now that citrus is back in season making orange liquer / bitters / cointreau. So easy, so good, and so much better than anything store bought. Will post something on the spirits board...

So so so easy. Citrus zest soaked in vodka, period.

                  Here is the longer version:

I buy most of my citrus at Arax, or Russos. But honestly for the next 8 weeks even the supermarket should have acceptable citrus.

Stripes, let us know where you are finding the best citrus these days and all the kinds...Arax? I just got a Buddha hand at WF and I'm going to infuse it with vodka...

Got some Cthulhu fruit (Buddha's Hand) at Russo's a couple weeks ago (also making infused liquors).

              leftover barbequed chicken
homemade mayo, mixed w/a dash of shiracha, maggi seasoning, lime juice & a teeny, teeny bit of sweetener
              carrots sliced v.thin
              cilantro
all on a homemade baguette (cold rise for better flavor)

helps me w/my bahn mi addiction...

"A bagel with cream cheese, onion and lox is a sandwich."

I'll be right over. I always like a little red onion, some capers and fresh tomato as well.

Very dificult to find in Hingham, but sure sounds good. I really like the tomato and capers as well.
                Will Enjoy,

completely unorthodox, but a Jewish boyfriend introduced me to adding sliced avocado. We were in northern Calif. at the time....

                You "don't eat sandwiches?"

I don't usually, no :P I guess that sounds odd. It's not that I don't ever eat sandwiches, but if there's a choice of other items, I have a tendency just not to choose sandwiches/burgers... I'll eat them now and again though. Like in this case :)

Not so unusual - not my favorite type of food either. Unless it's an unusual sandwich or with ingredients I love, I don't favor sandwiches. Probably why I don't find the Paris Cafe all that exciting. But I do love me some chacarero and banh mi.

What's so sad is that in the corporate lunch world, food is almost always sandwiches or pizza -- two of my least favorite foods, paired with soda, my least favorite beverage.

                    So where is ThinkingCup?

Totally agree, unless it is really something special (Katz' Pastrami, turkey roasted on site, etc.) I find most sandwiches in the US a total Boars Head bore.

hahahaha - "Boars Head bore" Love that, StriperGuy.

Most sandwiches I eat, I make at home, where I can call the shots on what kind of bread & fillings go in (not Boars Head, if I can avoid that overpriced stuff). Except for bahn mi. Now I just go to Allston for that (the stall at the former Super 88). Haven't had any other that equal that one - I make them at home but it's a totally different creation, of course. Good, but not authentic by any means.
