Has anyone tried Sauce on Rivington Street? I'm planning my office holiday lunch there, but I haven't seen many reviews. Thanks!

Just tried it for lunch (Feb. 2013, so they've been open 15 months now and may have needed the time to get things right) - had an outstanding roast pork on sesame bun with salsa verde and a nice simple arugala salad w sea salt. Good enough that I want to go back for dinner. (I also like that the menu has some great dishes like cotteghino (sp?) and roast shoulder of pork that one ordinarily has to make at home.

After a few recent meals at Sauce, I have to say that I won't find myself going back anytime soon.

I find the food to be on a bit of a downward spiral, but what really irks me is the tremendous bum's rush you get in this place. From practically the second you sit down (unless, I guess, you're dining at 5 PM) the bussers are all over you, practically snatching plates from under your nose the minute you set your fork down. Our last meal, which was fairly simple (a salad to share and 2 pastas) had the pastas coming out within 3 minutes of ordering; of course, the salad hadn't been delivered, so it was comped. Sadly, it was so poorly dressed that we left half.

This isn't complicated food - it's fairly simple. But because of the push to turn tables, both the food and the service have slid greatly. Avoid, I say.

RIFK, did you end up going to Sauce, and if so, what'd you think? The Yelp reviews are all over the place, but "loud" and "bad service" comes up a lot.

I did go to Sauce, for my office holiday lunch. Perhaps because it was at lunch time, it was not especially noisy. Contrary to what I'm reading above, our server was extremely knowledgeable about each dish on the menu, and couldn't have been friendlier and more helpful. I thought the food was actually delicious: specifically the meatballs were flavorful and just the right texture; the ice box fusilli was slightly crunchy (lightly pan fried) with melted cheese and a fresh, flavorful sauce. The dishes were down home Italian with an interesting twist. Everyone went away very happy. So I'd say, it's worth giving it a shot!

This place is ok....pros: great pork and ribs, location , cute place. Cons: only cash accepted, service is just ok, tables are so close together you may need stilts to go to the bathroom, they rush your dinner, pasta tubes are so long - one foot not kidding, on the pasta they use fresh mint instead of fresh basil???? did they out of basil? Won't go again....
