kenny's oil soaked grill
Following a tip on this board re: "steak house in addison", I chose Kenny's for a small company holiday dinner last night. It was very crowded, good sign. The wait for our reservation was not long. We had a splendid crab cake app and the creamy wasabi sauce was delicious. I had the special jalapeno soup - fantastic. My wife had a tasty tuna salad. Our grilled veggie sides were delicious. Now, the Rib Eye. It was a generous portion and cooked as ordered "rare +"; Looked good. Tasted....fine. One complaint - the steak was literally soaked in oil. Wha? I'm not sure how exactly this affected the outcome, besides lubing everything up. I was just startled to find so much oil on the plate. With four glasses of (yummy) wine, our bill for two, all in, was $140; ($40 of which covered the oil spill.) So there's a data point for Kenny's.

That's one small company.
Seriously though, did you inquire exactly what the oil was....or was it tallow or butter? Dressing, or finishing a steak with oil is quite common in many steakhouses.....even Peter Luger does so with rendered tallow. Bistecca Fiorentina or Tuscan Style both call for liberal amounts of olive oil to the finished dish.
Huh. That's good to know. No, I didn't inquire. I guess oil but that's an uneducated guess. When I grill a steak at home I like to slather a litle butter on top too. I've just never experienced this much oil or what have you. In this case I was less than thrilled. Now I know to ask about the finish ahead of time. thanks.
