Food Tour or Culinary Tour of Los Angeles?
I wanna get my husband a food tour experience for his Chanukah gift this year. I was particularly interested in one that focuses on Latin food (Mexican, Salvadorean, Cuban)... I have seen this one available http://www.meltingpottours.com/meltin..., but I'm wondering if anyone has been on one of their tours previously and can tell me whether it would be appealing to serious eaters like ourselves. We live here in L.A., so I'm wary of going on overly simple or tourist-y tours geared toward out-of-town visitors. Anyone have positive personal experience with food tours in L.A.?
I've been on a few of Six Taste as Servorg mentioned below. Unfortunately, I don't know of them doing any tours on Latin cusine, as their tours tend to be Asian, or geography based. I booked the Little Tokyo not expecting much, and thought it was exceptional. The guide was fun and very knowledgeble about foodie places in LA. I ate at many places I didn't even know exhisted, and was more than full at the end of the tour. Little Tokyo has become one of my favorite places as a result, and I often take out of town guests as a special "LA only" experience. I also went on the Thai Town tour, and while the food was fantastic, the guide spent too much time talking about Thai culture versus foodie info, and the tour just proceeded at a much slower pace - unfortunately I think she is the only one who does the Thai town tours. I've heard great things about their Downtown tour as well.
