Right now, best American or American/French Tasting Menu $125 and under.
In your opinion, what would be the best American or American/French Restaurant right now which offers a tasting menu for around $125 or less (of course not including wine).
Toqueville comes to mind but Id like to hear what everyone else thinks.
Agree with NM - EMP is a good choice, even the four-courser. So many extras, it might as well be a tasting menu.
Does your $125 include tax & tip? If so, that's only $95 give or take - pretty low for a tasting menu.
Otherwise, there's a few out there...
Momofuku Ko (if you can get a reservation, that is) - $125 / courses vary, usually eight or nine
Mas (Farmhouse) - $95 / six courses
Colicchio & Sons - $120 / seven
Gramercy Tavern - $116 / six
Corton - $115 / five (seasonal tasting)
Craft - $110 / seven
Dovetail $77 / five (autumn tasting)
...and if you want to cross the bridge into Brooklyn, The River Cafe ($125), The Grocery ($85), and Saul ($85) could be options as well.
...and upping your budget just a wee bit (to, say, $150) open up a few more options: WD-50, Jean Georges, the full "Chef's Tasting" at Dovetail, a few more... not that there aren't enough choices already.
Stretching from the French/American ever-so-slightly, there's also:
Aquavit - $115 / seven (Scandinavian flavors, but with a foot in French technique and New American in their use of lots of local / seasonal ingredients)
Aldea - $90 / five (New American with Portuguese flavors / influence)
Ai Fiori - $125 / seven (French / Italian)
Hearth - $76 / seven (New American / Italian)

What is a "tasting menu"? I ask only because it would be strange to "count" the "tasting menu" at Blue Hill, which is really just a (supremely satisfying) five course meal, but not, say the four course option at Jean Georges or The Modern.
If I had 125$ to spend on food costs, I would get the 4-course at EMP, which, with all the treats scattered throughout tends to be about 10 different things to try.
