Central NJ restaurant suggestions for gift certificate?

Hi all -

Looking to give parents a gift certificate to a local restaurant in NJ for xmas. My husband grew up in NJ, but we live on the west coast and don't go back very often, and are very out of the restaurant loop!

They live near Flemington, so places in the Mercer/Hunterdon county area would probably be best. Thought about the Ryland Inn, but they've been and it wasn't a good experience so I'm not inclined to spend any more $ there.

Thank you!

  1. Some ideas are: blue bottle grill in Hopewell, elements in Princeton, 90 acres in peapack, Matt's red rooster in Flemington, and hamiltons grill room in Lambertville.

You have been away a long time. The Ryland Inn has been closed for many years.

If they want to go to Princeton, I would recommend Peacock Inn, Elements ( as mentioned above, and more informal , Blue Water Grill. You also could consider Eno Terra in Kingston (just north of Princeton).

    1. As BigGeorge says, the Ryland Inn is long gone. However, if you once purchased a certificate for dinner there you should have no problem spending $$$ for a certificate to elements or the Peacock Inn. Of these two, I'm thinking your parents might prefer the Peacock.

Other suggestions mentioned here are also good (the food at the the Blue Bottle is terrific) and you might want to also consider the Frenchtown Inn and the Sergeantsville Inn

      1. Depending upon the budget you could also try something like a show at the State Theater in New Brunswick followed or preceded by dinner at Stage Left.

Thanks, folks! I'm leaning toward Peacock Inn for the following reasons:

          - I think they've been to Matt's Red Rooster but I can't remember if they liked it or not. :)
          - Peacock Inn's 3-course dinner would make it easy to do a gift certificate amount.

It sounds like you would recommend the Peacock then?

Also, LOL on the Ryland Inn. Yes, it HAS been a while!

          Thanks again!

Aloof74, I don't think your parents would be disappointed at the Peacock. There are several threads on the board about this restaurant; here's one that will give you an idea of what they can expect.

You can read other comments simply by searching for "peacock" (at the very top of the page).

        2. Friends recently went to the Peacock Inn for an anniversary dinner. I've seen photos of the food and the presentation was just lovely. The friend confirmed that the taste was wonderful. It seems that it would make a nice gift for your in-laws.
