Snapping turtle in central NJ?

drongo Dec 11, 2011 11:35 AM

Does anyone know where I can buy a whole (and preferably already dead) snapping turtle in central NJ? I'm in Monmouth County (Exit 109/114) but will venture beyond my lair if necessary.

Looks like you may have to venture to North Jersey, or mail order! At around $20 a pound, I'm sure it's been dispatched already - frozen for your convenience as well.

      Fossil Farms looks really interesting.

Though I noticed the first item listed under "Wild Scottish Game Birds" is Hare! I think they need a quick zoology lesson on Synapsida (mammals) vs. Diapsida (birds, lizards).

I had wanted it for Snapping Turtle Soup (e.g. see http://articles.philly.com/1993-05-23... ) .... but that was last December, lol.

      Thanks for the replies though.

A more sincere answer might be the Hong Kong Market on Rt. 18 in East Brunswick. It has been a long time since I was there but they carried a TON of exotic asian fish and more. That might be your best shot. Good luck and please due tell what you plan on doing with it.

I agree Chinatwon. Which leads me to suggest perhaps the Asian Food Market might be able to order one for you.

I don't know where you can buy one.....but I'll let you come camp in my yard for a couple days as we get them as visitors every so often from the creek adjacent to my home. Awnry little guys I can tell you that much.
