Snapping turtle in central NJ?

  • 9

Does anyone know where I can buy a whole (and preferably already dead) snapping turtle in central NJ? I'm in Monmouth County (Exit 109/114) but will venture beyond my lair if necessary.

    1. No but I have to ask, what are you doing with it? chinatown would be my top guess LOL

      1. I don't know where you can buy one.....but I'll let you come camp in my yard for a couple days as we get them as visitors every so often from the creek adjacent to my home. Awnry little guys I can tell you that much.

        1. I agree Chinatwon. Which leads me to suggest perhaps the Asian Food Market might be able to order one for you.

          1. A more sincere answer might be the Hong Kong Market on Rt. 18 in East Brunswick. It has been a long time since I was there but they carried a TON of exotic asian fish and more. That might be your best shot. Good luck and please due tell what you plan on doing with it.

            1. I had wanted it for Snapping Turtle Soup (e.g. see http://articles.philly.com/1993-05-23... ) .... but that was last December, lol.

              Thanks for the replies though.

Hahahaha I didn't realize the original thread date!! Snapping Turtle Soup reminds me of the old Abbott and Costello episode!!

              2. Looks like you may have to venture to North Jersey, or mail order! At around $20 a pound, I'm sure it's been dispatched already - frozen for your convenience as well.

                  Fossil Farms looks really interesting.

Though I noticed the first item listed under "Wild Scottish Game Birds" is Hare! I think they need a quick zoology lesson on Synapsida (mammals) vs. Diapsida (birds, lizards).
