Sunset Park Review: No 1 Ice Cream, 6410 8th Ave

I visited here on Friday and had a scoop each of the durian and black sesame ice cream, each of which were some of the best I've had in New York City, just sweet enough, with deep flavor of the main ingredients and a creamy texture.

I love durian ice cream, but it's hard to find in NYC. (The only other place where I've found a good one is SkyIce Thai Sweet & Savory in Park Slope.) The black sesame was excellent as well, lots of sticky sesame texture and taste.

They also have a full range of standard flavors and homemade bubble teas, but I didn't try any of that. The store is on the garish side, with only two tables.

This place is far better than Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. I recommend making a trip out here. A good place to eat nearby is H858 Corp (59-24 8th Ave), a Fuzhou hand-pulled noodle shop that has a branch on E Broadway in Manhattan.

  1. I went this past summer. I remember the creamy texture and flavor. Thanks for reporting back on your visit!

    1. This is exciting news. There used to be an ice cream place on 8th ave that had amazing sesame ice cream, but it closed down a few years ago and relocated to manhattan. (i'm spacing on the name.) Maybe this is another incarnation of that? Whatever it is, it will be nice to have good ice cream back in Sunset Park chinatown.

It's been there a while and I don't think it's doing well, so if you want it to stay around, I suggest a pilgrimage.

Do i see yunnan flavor snack wontons and some ice cream in my future this week?

Gotta get out there for some shopping anyway.
